The Problem
To help keeping Kent's roads moving, Kent Highways Services need to manage existing traffic volumes to improve traffic flow and limit the future growth in vehicle numbers. To do this they are interested in constantly increasing their ability to effectively manage Kent's traffic by:
- monitoring the network, and responding in good time to the causes of congestion
- using Intelligent Transport Systems to respond to traffic conditions and keep Kent's road network flowing and safe
- managing HGV traffic to ensure heavy vehicles use appropriate routes
In order to achieve this Kent Highways Services needed to work with an innovative company that could provide a solution which would integrate seamlessly into the overall UTMC system and provide accurate real time information.
The Solution
Golden River Traffic provided a complete turnkey solution by assessing the requirements and designing and developing a system for Kent’s unique specification. This was supported by full project management, installation, commissioning and testing of all the “outstation” equipment including unique range of street furniture and the total “instation” suite that allows the user to remotely manage their remote devices.
As part of their Urban Traffic Management and Control (UTMC) solution, Golden River have installed 56 sites consisting of Marksman 680 count and classify systems which provide real time VBV and UTMC complaint data to the UTMC database. The Marksman 680 unit is chosen for its unique combination of ultra low power consumption, reliability, flexibility and accuracy.
